Kitchen Chalkboard

A chalkboard with a natural rope hanger is a stylish way to keep reminders for yourself, or to leave notes for the rest of the family. It's also great fun for the children - you should have enough paint left to make another for the playroom. Making your own chalkboard is easier than you might think - Chalkboard Paint is simple to apply, and has a perfectly smooth, matt, non-reflective finish.

Step Number1
Chalk before

Measure the wall area you want to cover in the kitchen, and ask your DIY store to cut a piece of three quarter inch thick MDF to size. Sand the edges smooth.

Step Number2
Chalkboard step 2

Drill two holes, slightly larger than the width of your rope, in the top corners of the board.

Step Number3

Apply a single coat of Super Black Primer, followed by several thin coats of Chalkboard Paint until you have total coverage.

Step Number4
Chalkboard step 4

When the paint is dry, thread your rope through the holes, forming a loop at the back. Tie in large knots at the front to secure.

Step Number5
