Retro Kitchen Storage

You can make your own 1950s-style metal storage tins quickly, cheaply and easily using plain tins and retro ice-cream shades of spray paint. These tins are just too pretty to put away in the cupboard - display them on work surfaces for a stylish finishing touch to your kitchen decoration.

 

You'll need

Plain tins in a variety of sizes
Newspaper
Masking tape
Adhesive lettering (available at stationers)
Satin Super in Cameo Pink

Step by step guide
Step Number1
Tins before

Wash your tins thoroughly and allow to dry.

 
Step Number2

Lay out newspaper in a well-ventilated working area.

 
Step Number3

Use masking tape and newspaper to shield the inside of the containers.

Tins step 4

Spray with one or two coats of Satin Super Cameo Pink or Porcelain. Two thin, even coats will give a better finish. Paint half the tins a different colour to create visual interest.

 
Step Number5

Whilst the paint is still tacky, remove the masking tape. Once the paint is completely dry apply adhesive letters to label each tin.


 
Step Number6

Spray the tins with a finishing coat of Super Clear Acrylic for extra protection.

Note: Always follow usage instructions on the reverse of Plasti-kote spray paint cans.
