It's easy to create a beautiful, durable finish. All you need to do is follow these simple steps.

Note that some projects will require even fewer steps - not all objects will require sanding and priming.

Always read the instructions first.

 
Shake the can

Shake the can well to ensure the pigment is evenly dispersed in the can. You will hear the rattle of the mixing ball.

Practise
Practise on a piece of newspaper

Practise spraying on newspaper keeping the can moving.

 
Prepare the base

Ensure the surface is clean, dry, sanded or primed as necessary.

 
Test on inconspicuous area

If you are unsure whether the paint is compatible with the material, test first on an inconspicuous area.

 
Mask off areas you don't want painted

Mask areas that you don't want to be painted.

Distance
Check distance

Check for the spraying distance - this is very important and varies between products.

 
Apply evenly in several directions

Apply spray paint quickly and evenly in several directions moving the can from side to side and up and down.

 
Shake regularly

Shake the can regularly for 10 seconds during spraying.

Several thin coats
Apply several thin coats

In most cases spray several thin coats. There are exceptions to this rule - always read the instructions first.

Drying time
Allow to dry for recommended time

Leave to dry for the recommended time.
